The Council formally appointed, without debate, at the meeting of environment ministers on 22 December 2009 in Brussels, the future Council secretary-general for the period from 26 June 2011 until 30 June 2015. The appointee is German national Uwe Corsepius, aged 49, adviser for European affairs to Chancellor Angela Merkel. He will succeed Pierre de Boissieu (France), who took up his new duties on 1 December with the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, after having served as deputy secretary-general for ten years...
