Vuelve a subir la superficie mundial sembrada con OGMs
La superficie con cultivos biotecnológicos (OGM) volvió a subir por segundo año consecutivo y en 2004 se registró un crecimiento del 20 por ciento, hasta alcanzar algo más de 13 millones de hectáreas, según un estudio del ISAAA.
El informe anual completo sobre el área sembrada con cultivos biotecnológicos del Servicio Internacional para la Adquisición de Aplicaciones Agrobiotecnológicas (ISAAA) se presentará mañana, día 12, a través de teleconferencia e internet -www.readytalk.com-.
El presidente del ISAAA, Clive James, anunciará los resultados completos del informe que detalla cómo continúa extendiéndose la adopción y el apoyo en los países industrializados y en desarrollo, según un comunicado de la Fundación para la Aplicación de Nuevas Tecnologías en la Agricultura, el Medio Ambiente y la Alimentación (Antama).
Según el estudio, unos 8,25 millones de agricultores sembraron cultivos biotecnológicos en el 2004, 1,25 millones más que en el 2003, y el 90 por ciento de ellos residen en países en vías de desarrollo.
