WEAKNESSES OF TRANSPARENCY REGISTER.

The register opened by the European Commission to keep track of interest groups that lobby the EU institutions is ignored by large enterprises and riddled with mistakes, says Alter-EU, a coalition of NGOs specialised in combating corruption. "Our research identified 120 companies actively lobbying in Brussels that were not registered," reads an Alter-EU report, published on 25 June.

The list of groups missing from the register includes around 15 banking groups as well as pharmaceutical laboratories and food industry giants like Monsanto, Mars, Heinz and Pepsi, notes Alter-EU.
