What happens if
I fail to identify a
person wishing
to apply for
international
protection?
An incorrect identif‌ication and failure to refer the
person to the competent authorities may have
serious consequences for the person. He/she may
be returned to a country where his/her life or
freedom would be threatened or where he/
she would face persecution, death, cruel and
inhuman degrading treatment or other serious
human rights violations.
As a f‌irst-contact ocial you have a crucial role in
ensuring access to protection for persons in need.
Consult your superior whenever you have any doubts
about the intentions of the person in front of you.
