At its extraordinary meeting, on July 9 in Budapest, Group III (Various Interests) of the European Economic and Social Committee endorsed the candidature of its President, Anne-Marie Sigmund, for the Presidency of the EESC. She is currently the front-runner in this respect. The Presidency of the Committee is traditionally passed one by one through the groups. Group II (Workers) holds the Presidency at the moment; from 2000-2002 it was Group I (Employers).
