BIRTH OF 'TREN', THE NEW ENERGY AND TRANSPORT DIRECTORATE-GENERAL.

On December 22, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to the creation of a new Directorate-General for Transport and Energy. The new structure "Transport and Energy" - baptised TREN - has a staff of 650 and will be operational by January 1, 2000. More information has emerged on the Energy side of the new DG since the last edition of European Report.
