*ECIS 2000 - A cyberespace odysseyThe 8th European Conference on Information Systems will take place in Vienna, Austria, on July 3-5 2000. The theme of ECIS 2000 is "A Cyberspace Odyssey: Trends in Information and Communication Systems for the 21st Century". The conference will have a twofold perspective: on the one hand to review the most visible IS/IT trends of the nineties, such asthe rapid development of the Internet and the Word Wide Web and their economic relevance, and on the other to make predictions for the future of those emerging IS/IT issues that are most likely to influence research for the next ten years. The programme itself is divided into General Tracks, Industry-Oriented Tracks and a Doctoral Consortium, with scientific papers, practice-oriented reports, panels and tutorials. For further details contact: ECIS 2000 Conference Secretariat, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Department of Information SystemsAugasse 2-6, A-1090 Wien; Tel. +43-1-818864533; fax +43-1-1336746; E-mail: ecis2000@wu-wien.ac.at; URL: http://ecis2000.wu-wien.ac.at/* The mathematics of surfaces IXThe ninth Conference of the INSTITUTE OF MATHEMATICS AND ITS APPLICATIONS on the Mathematics of Surfaces will take place at the University of Cambridge, UK, on September 4-6 2000.Computer-based methods for the construction, representation, and manipulation of complicated surfaces have led to a wide interest in, and need for, surface mathematics.. Several international authorities will be presenting invited papers, and contributed papers are now called for. These will be refereed by an international programme committee.Three types of papers are sought:- survey papers describing the state of the art of an aspect of the mathematics of surfaces,- research papers presenting new developments in the visual recognition, manipulation, representation, design, and approximation of surfaces, with an emphasis on computational methods and their underlying mathematical principles,- papers covering practical applications of surface mathematics which could indicate directions for the research community. The deadline for the submission of papers is March 1 2000.For further details contact: The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, Mrs Pamela Bye...
