COMMITEE OF THE REGIONS: CANDIDATES LINE UP FOR THE PRESIDENCY.

The plenary session of the EU Committee of the Regions on February 6 will elect the Committee's new President, fourteen vice-Presidents and other members of the CoR Bureau. The EU's regional advisory body, created in 1991 by the Maastricht Treaty and which entered into service in March 1994, will then officially begin its third mandate. The European People's Party (EPP) group has officially designated Edouardo Zaplana, President of the autonomous community of Valencia, Spain, and a CoR member since 1995, as its official candidate for the Presidency. He will be vying for the post with the Socialist candidate Albert Bore, Mayor of Birmingham, United Kingdom, and outgoing President of the PES group.
