The 2020 EU Justice Scoreboard shows a continued improvement in the effectiveness of justice systems in large majority of
Member States. Nevertheless, challenges remain to ensure full trust of citizens in the legal systems of those Member States where
guarantees of status and position of judges, and thereby their independence, might be at risk.
The EU Justice Scoreboard provides objective and comparable information on the independence, quality and efficiency of national
justice systems, and is used as a reference in the European Semester, and will be one of the sources in the upcoming Rule of law
Report. As announced in the Communication on further strengthening the rule of law within the Union – A blueprint for action, the
EU Justice Scoreboard will be further developed in the relevant rule of law related areas.
