9 COORDINATION AT NATIONAL LEVEL
At governmental level in GB there has traditionally been less th an complete cla rity as to
which government department was responsible for anti-discrimination measures, and there
has been a history of consta ntly shifting responsibility between different d epartments to
reflect the differing interests of different ministers. The Government Equalities Office,
formed in October 2007, is an independent department and has had various min isterial
sponsors. During 2019 there have been three different holders of the of fice of Minister for
Women and Equalities. By the end of 2019, the Minister for Women and Equalities was the
Secretary of State for International Trade. The Office has responsibility within Government
for equality strategy and legislation in the UK.186
There is no anti-racism or anti-discrimination National Action Plan in the Unit ed Kingdom.
