Crece el debate sobre la financiación de la política agrícola de los países candidatos a la adhesión

Los ministros de Agricultura de los futuros Estados miembros de la Unión Europea y varios diputados del Parlamento Europeo, reunidos el pasado 18 de febrero en un encuentro de la comisión parlamentaria de Agricultura, criticaron con dureza los planes de la Comisión Europea para financiar la ampliación. El debate puso de relieve la importancia capital de la política agrícola y del presupuesto agrícola de cara a asegurar el éxito de la ampliación, justo en el momento en que las negociaciones de adhesión entran en la recta final.
La CE ha previsto un aumento por etapas de las ayudas a la agricultura, que abarcaría los próximos diez años y empezaría con el 25% del total de los pagos directos otorgados a los Estados miembros actuales.
Los eurodiputados y los ministros de Agricultura de los países de la Europa Central y del Este, Chipre y Malta, declararon que ello comportaría la instauración de una Política Agrícola Común a dos velocidades, con un primer grupo formado por los Estados miembros y un segundo grupo de desaventajados nuevos miembros.
El ministro de Agricultura polaco, Jaroslaw Kalinowski, acusó a la UE de "intentar reunir el continente europeo de forma barata". En el mismo sentido, el secretario de estado húngaro para la Agricultura, Tamas Eder, declaró que los planes de la CE son discriminatorios y van en contra de los futuros nuevos miembros, apuntando que "los productores húngaros de cereales, por ejemplo, sufrirían de una desventaja competitiva de 46 euros ante sus homólogos de los antiguos Estados miembros".
La comisión parlamentaria de Agricultura del PE apoyó las preocupaciones de los países candidatos y aseguró, mediante un comunicado de prensa, que la CE "ha fracasado a la hora de tener en cuenta sus problemas y situaciones específicas".
