DISCHARGE PROCEDURE FOR THE EU'S 1997.BUDGET.

The European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control held an initial exchange of views on January 20 on the procedure for he budgetary discharge for 1997. The Committee's rapporteur Laurens Jan Brinkhorst (ELDR, Netherlands) stressed the fact that the report of the European Parliament's newly-established Committee of Independent Experts, which will be submitted by March 15 (see previous issue of European Report) will have an influence on the work of the Committee on Budgetary Control. He also drew a link between the procedure for 1996, stressing that he could not foresee a discharge for 1997 without a solution to the 1996 Budget problem...
