DRAFT AGENDA FOR EUROPEAN COUNCIL ON JUNE 17-18.

The EU General Affairs Council examined the draft agenda for the June 17-18 European Council in Brussels. Ministers did not comment on the text, which is still a provisional document. Despite final negotiations on the Inter-Governmental Conference (IGC) which will be taking place alongside the European Council, the Heads of State and Government are expected to come up with Conclusions on the following seven points:

- Appointments: President of the European Commission, Council Secretary-General and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and deputy Council Secretary-General;

- European Area of Freedom, Security and Justice: continuation of the process initiated at the Tampere Summit in October, 1999.

- Terrorism: examination of a report by the High Representative accompanied by a proposal to incorporate an intelligence capacity into the Councils General Secretariat.
