The European Commission launched, on 7 December 2012, the EU Skills Panorama, a website(1) presenting information on the supply of and demand for skills and skills mismatches. The panorama, which draws on data and forecasts compiled at EU and member state level, will highlight the fastest growing occupations and the occupations with high numbers of unfilled vacancies.

The EU currently has around two million job vacancies despite high levels of unemployment, notes the Commission. The website contains detailed information by sector, by profession and by country and will be regularly updated. Panorama shows that the sectors where the workforce is in shortest supply today are in finance and sales but Europe also has a shortage of biologists, pharmacologists, medical doctors and related professionals, nurses, ICT professionals and engineers.
