EMPLOYMENT: HIGHER PAY IN SERVICE SECTOR.

Eurostat has published figures showing that the trend in the period 1995-99 was for higher pay in the service sector. Rates of pay were lowest in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Across the spectrum, pay increased during the period in all the regions examined for the publication, except in Berlin where there was a slight reduction. The regions with the highest increases were in Greece, Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands. The regions with the lowest increases were in Germany, Austria, Sweden and France.
