ERICSSON AWARDED BELGIAN CONTRACT BY KPN-ORANGE

The KPN-Orange Belgium consortium, which comprises KPN-PTT Telecom and British cellular phone operator Orange, has awarded Ericsson of Sweden a BEF10 billion Belgian franc order. Under the five-year contract Ericsson will be the exclusive supplier of the complete DCS 1800 network in Belgium. Earlier the Belgian economics and telecommunications ministry said the cabinet had awarded a DCS 1800 mobile phone licence to KPN-Orange. DCS 1800 is a variant of the pan-European GSM system which uses the 900 MHz frequency. DCS 1800 uses the 1800 MHz band.
