EU APPLAUSE FOR LITHUANIA'S ABOLITION OF DEATH PENALTY.

The European Union has welcomed Lithuania's decision to abolish the death penalty. The Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, voted on December 21 by a large majority to modify the penal code. The EU, in a December 28 Presidency Declaration, recognised this sign of commitment to human rights, and also called on Lithuania to rapidly sign and become party to the 6th Protocol of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights...
