Unemployment in the EU was up slightly in April 2002 compared to March, rising from 7.5% to 7.6%, according to the latest data from Eurostat, the EU's statistical office. Unemployment in the 12 member countries of the Euro-zone also rose by the same amount, from 8.2% to 8.3%. In April 2001, the unemployment rate for the EU was 7.4% and for the Euro-zone 8.0%.The lowest rates were registered in Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Portugal and Ireland.
