EUROPEAN COMMISSION RECRUITS FIRST SENIOR MANAGERS FROM ACCESSION STATES.

In line with the European Commission's February 18 decision reserving certain senior management functions for recruits from the new Member States, the first eighteen posts were published in the Official Journal on April 15 and 16. Adverts will appear in print media of all the new Member States from April 18 to 28. The positions include: two Director-General posts for the Joint Research Centre and for Informatics; six Deputy Director-General posts for Research, Employment and Social Affairs, Eurostat, Trade, External Relations, Energy and Transport; and 10 Director posts for DG Enterprise, Employment and Social Affairs, Agriculture, Energy and Transport, Environment, Research, Information Society, Regional Policy, Eurostat, and the Directorate-General for Trade. The deadline for applications is May 14, 2004. Further publications of senior management functions will follow in the coming months. The first competitions at middle management level will be launched before the end of April.
