EUROPEAN COUNCIL: LEADERS REACH DEAL ON FINANCING OF ENLARGEMENT.

EU leaders have agreed a package on the financing of enlargement at the Brussels summit. Heads of state and governments backed a deal drawn up by the Danish Presidency after the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder confirmed his agreement with French President Jacques Chirac on the cost of the Common Agricultural Policy. At one point in the afternoon, it looked as though Schroder was backing away from his agreement with Chirac after realising that the bill could rise substantially (see main article in this section).
