Its objective was to analyse the role of committees in the Community political process with a view to contributing to a better understanding of decision-making in the European multi-level system of governance. The empirical enquiry focused on the standing committees of the EP, working parties in the Council and implementing or "comitology" committees. The theoretical framework guiding empirical research was the concept of deliberative democracy and legitimacy. Thise colloquium will present the findings, which will be commented on by experts from academia and Community institutions.
