A report, unveiled on 2 February, shows the European Commission has exceeded its target - by nearly 500 staff members - in terms of recruitment from the ten member states that joined the EU in 2004. In total, 4,004 officials and temporary agents from the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia were recruited before the end of 2010 - the limit for the transitional period.
