(1999/C 118/127) PREGUNTA ESCRITA E-2611/98 de Josep Pons Grau (PSE) a la Comisión (1 de septiembre de 1998) Asunto: Derechos humanos en Guinea Ecuatorial Habida cuenta de los últimos acontecimientos ocurridos en Guinea Ecuatorial, donde tras el macrojuicio contra 117 personas de la etnia Bubi, realizado sin las mínimas garantías exigibles a un Estado de Derecho, se dictaron, entre otras condenas, 15 penas de muerte, y donde las condiciones carcelarias de los presos condenados son absolutamente infrahumanas, según fuentes de Amnistía Internacional, lo que presuntamente ha causado la muerte de Martín Puye del Movimiento de Autodeterminación de la Isla de Bioko,
Habida cuenta de la absoluta falta de voluntad del Gobierno de Malabo por avanzar en la vía de la democratización y del respeto de los derechos, ¿Va a reconsiderar la Comisión sus relaciones de cooperación con Guinea Ecuatorial? ¿Se va a hacer uso de la 'cláusula de condicionalidad democrática' del Convenio de Lomé? Respuesta del Sr. Pinheiro en nombre de la Comisión (5 de octubre de 1998) La Comisión sigue de cerca la evolución de la situación en materia de derechos humanos en Guinea Ecuatorial. Ha intervenido en sucesivas ocasiones, utilizando las vías adecuadas y en conjunción con los Estados miembros, en favor de las personas detenidas y condenadas tras los incidentes ocurridos en la isla de Bioko en enero de 1998.
