MEDIASET POINTS HINTS AT DEAL WITH KIRCH GROUP.
Fedele Confalonieri, Chairman of Mediaset, part of the Berlusconi group, indicated on December 18 that negotiations on the acquisition of a stake in the German Kirch group are well advanced. Code-named "Traviata", negotiations on the restructuring of the beleaguered German television and media group, have followed a roller-coaster course since last summer. Besides Silvio Berlusconi, another media magnate Rupert Murdoch, and the Saudi Prince Al Walid have also expressed an interest in Kirch.
