MEPS URGE EUROPEAN CONSTITUTION.

Two MEPs, Francois Bayrou (EPP, France) and Daniel Cohn-Bendit (Greens, France) made a call on 13 June for a European constitution to be created. "We urge EU governments and in particular the French Government to launch a constitutional process during the Nice Summit, in December 2000, with a view to adopting a constitution for Europe, that could be ratified in 2003", the joint signatories of the appeal stressed, pressing the European Commission and the European Parliament to be "involved in the constituent process".The two MEPs distinguished themselves during the June 1999 elections in France by conducting a firmly federalist campaign, in contrast to the cautious stance displayed on the competing lists of their...
