MOBILE TELEPHONY: NEW REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR BASE STATIONS.

A new control system which enables network operators to manage at a distance the growing number of base stations or mobile phone antennae has been developed as part of a EUREKA project. The number of mobile phones in circulation is constantly growing and requires more and more base stations to ensure cover for calls. It is not easy, however to maintain stations in a consistently good state of operation. Equipped with a budget of more than Euro 800,000, the heads of the SAEB98 project have sought to tackle the maintenance problem. Amper Soluciones, a Spanish company specialising in management of telecom systems, and Ascom Energy Systems, an expert in energy installations in the sector, have been working on the task for two years.

The team members have developed a power cabinet with an integrated control system which is small enough to access the smallest and most awkward locations.
