(2002/C 277 E/013) PREGUNTA ESCRITA E-3695/01 de Nelly Maes (Verts/ALE) a la Comisión (16 de enero de 2002) Asunto: Delegaciones de la UE La presencia de una delegación de la UE en un país refleja la importancia que el país tiene para la UE.
¿Puede facilitar la Comisión una relación de:
países de los que se ha retirado la delegación de la UE, países en los que se ha establecido una nueva delegación de la UE, y países en los que se mantiene una delegación de la UE? Respuesta del Sr. Patten en nombre de la Comisión (11 de marzo de 2002) La Comisión no ha previsto cerrar ninguna de sus delegaciones. En la Comunicación al Consejo y al Parlamento de 3 de julio de 2001 sobre el Desarrollo del Servicio Exterior (1 ) se prevé la racionalización de los recursos de tres delegaciones: Costa Rica, Sri Lanka y Trinidad y Tobago. Como consecuencia de esta decisión, la Comisión propone acreditar a cada uno de los tres Gobiernos un Jefe de Delegación en un país vecino como Jefe de Delegación no residente. Las delegaciones continuarán existiendo, disponiendo de un único funcionario en calidad de 'encargado de negocios' con su propio personal local. Esto permitirá que la delegación continúe siguiendo como hasta ahora las cuestiones tradicionales de cooperación al desarrollo, e igualmente las cuestiones políticas y sociales, incluido el comercio.
En el contexto de la citada Comunicación, la Comisión decidió cerrar siete de sus oficinas: las de Antigua y Barbuda, Santo Tomé y Príncipe, Guinea Ecuatorial, Belice, Comoras, Antillas Neerlandesas y Tonga.
