NEW COMMISSION: DIRECTOR-GENERAL FOR PERSONNEL AND ADMINISTRATION APPOINTED.

The European Commission has appointed 57 year-old Frenchman Claude Chene to the post of Director-General for Personnel and Administration with effect from October 1, 2004. Recruited to the Directorate-General for Transport in 1976, he joined Commissioner Clinton Davis Cabinet in 1986 before taking the post of Chef de Cabinet for Karel Van Miert in 1989. He has also held a post of Director at the Directorates-General for Transport and Personnel and Administration.
