NEW PUBLICATIONS.

A new edition of the "Guide to the European Union" was published in April. In common with the earlier version, this 400-page publication is a key reference work. Written by Gerard Rousselot-Pailley, former Director of Europe Information Service, the Guide reviews the EU's activities over the 2001-2002 period, while considering the main themes of European activities set to figure large on the agenda of EU institutions in 2003 and beyond. Comprising five sections that are each divided into several chapters, the Guide adopts the original approach of considering EU activities from the perspective not only of the 15 Member States but also of the countries now poised to join. Each chapter is amplified by annexes and a selection of information sources plus websites.

  1. Institutional affairs - A Constitutional Treaty in 2004

  2. The European economy - Economic forecasts 2003-2004; Lisbon strategy and reforms underway

  3. European policies - Environment, Energy, Transport, Public services, Agriculture, Research, Defence

  4. The European Union's neighbours

  5. Fact sheets - Consumer protection, Food safety, Public health, European social agenda, European governance
