NICK WITNEY NAMED HEAD OF NEW EUROPEAN DEFENCE AGENCY.

Nick Witney has been appointed the first chief executive of the new European Defence Agency (EDA), EU High Representative for CFSP Javier Solana announced on July 30. Mr Witney and his new deputy, Hilmar Linnenkamp, received the unanimous support of the EDA's Steering Board, the European Commission and 24 of the EU Member States. Denmark is not involved in the agency for constitutional reasons. Mr Witney will be responsible for setting out the agency's work plan during his three-year term.
