Daan joined the Federal Public Service Home Affairs in 2016 as a project manager for the transposition and implementation of the EU PNR Directive in Belgium. He became Deputy Director of the newly established Belgian Passenger Information Unit (BelPIU) in 2019 and was appointed (acting) Director for Strategy and International Affairs in October 2021, co- responsible for the transition of the BelPIU to the Belgian National Travel Targeting Centre (NTTC).
Daan is chair of the Informal Working Group on Passenger Name Records and was a member of the European Union’s committee for the evaluation of the EU - USA PNR Agreement. Prior to joining the Ministry of Home Affairs, Daan obtained a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and an Advanced Master’s degree in European Public Administration from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
