RESEARCH : EUROPEANS SUPPORT COORDINATED POLICY.

In spite of some reservations, Europeans have a positive view on the whole of science, which continues to be linked to the idea of progress. According to a study published by the European Commission on 8 January, based on a survey carried out in the 27 member states during summer 2008, Europeans widely support a more coordinated research policy and the pooling of human and financial resources for research on issues of common interest, such as health, the environment or energy(1).
