ROAD TRANSPORT: IRU CALLS FOR CHANGES TO MARCO POLO PROGRAMME.

The International Road Transport Union (IRU) is not happy with the new Marco Polo programme, which is designed to support a more environmentally-friendly system of transport in Europe. The organisation is asking EU Member States and the European Parliament to ensure that the proposal for a Regulation presented by the European Commission on February 4 (see European Report 2657, 492) is redrafted, in order, it says, to genuinely promote projects of intermodal transport. For the IRU, the proposal as it currently reads does not really allow it to promote intermodality ("there is not a single reference to intermodal or combined...
