The Employment and Social Affairs Council was informed by the French Presidency about the informal political agreement on the recast version of the directive on the European works councils, on 17 December. The recast version of Directive 94/45/EC, which aims to improve the functioning of the information and consultation rights of these works councils, has been sent to the EU's lawyer-linguists. The official adoption by the Council is scheduled for the beginning of 2009 and the legislative path of this recast directive will then be finished.
