Maria Jaspers is a Swedish lawyer and has a Master of European Law from the Europa-Institut in Saarbrücken, Germany. Before joining the European Commission, Maria worked in private practice for two years, specializing in competition and contractual law.


Since November 2020, Maria has been the Director of DG Competition’s Cartel Directorate, overseeing four units dedicated to cartel detection and prosecution. Prior to this, Maria held various positions within the European Commission and DG Competition, including Deputy Head of the Antitrust and Merger Case Coordination Unit and Head of Unit in DG Competition's Cartel Directorate.


Maria has extensive experience in competition policy and enforcement, particularly in relation to antitrust and cartel cases. She has a strong background in both legal and management roles, making her well-suited to lead the Cartel Directorate.
