UNION SYNDICALE EMERGES VICTORIOUS FROM COMMISSION STAFF ELECTIONS.

Elections to the Local Staff Committee fought out in Brussels on November 30, December 1 and 2, was a decisive test of the representativeness of unions in European public office, following the declaring null and void of the previous poll in March. The final results of the elections, which, once more, were almost cancelled owing to the lack of a quorum of 10,389 voters, a figure just exceeded, give ten seats to the US, a gain of one and six to Renouveau et Democratie, a gain of two, due in large part to the impact of Paul van Buitenen, the official made famous by his crusade against the former Santer team and who now finds himself a union delegate. The FFPE, with four seats and the SFE with three each loose one seat. TAO-AFI retains its two seats as does the SFIE.
