The European Commission has decided to extend, until 25 March, a consultation with social partners on the current review of the Working Time Directive. The consultation period should have closed on 28 February, but has been prolonged at the request of several of the social partners; BusinessEurope, the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (UEAPME) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC).

While all partners agree on the need to revise the directive, which lays down health and security rules relating to working time and limits the maximum number of working hours per week to 48, not all partners agree on the context, scope and objectives of the review.
