III (Actos adoptados en aplicación del Tratado UE) ACTOS ADOPTADOS EN APLICACIÓN DEL TÍTULO V DEL TRATADO UE DECISIÓN 2008/389/PESC DEL CONSEJO de 7 de abril de 2008 relativa a la celebración del Acuerdo entre la Unión Europea y la República Centroafricana sobre el estatuto de la Fuerza dirigida por la Unión Europea en la República Centroafricana EL CONSEJO DE LA UNIÓN EUROPEA,
Visto el Tratado de la Unión Europea y, en particular, su artículo 24,
Vista la recomendación de la Presidencia,
Considerando lo siguiente:
(1) El 25 de septiembre de 2007, el Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas adoptó su Resolución 1778 (2007) por la que se aprueba el establecimiento de una misión de las Naciones Unidas en la República de Chad y en la República Centroafricana (Minurcat) y que autoriza a la Unión Europea a desplegar en dichos países durante un período de doce meses a partir de la declaración de capacidad operativa inicial, una operación para respaldar la misión de las Naciones Unidas. Por otro lado, la Resolución invita a los Gobiernos de Chad y de la República Centroafricana y a la Unión europea a celebrar, lo antes posible, acuerdos relativos al estatuto de las fuerzas de la operación de la Unión Europea.
(2) El 15 de octubre de 2007, el Consejo adoptó la Acción Común 2007/677/PESC (1) sobre la Operación Militar de la Unión Europea en la República de Chad y en la República Centroafricana (EUFOR Chad/CF).
(3) Tras la autorización dada por el Consejo el 18 de septiembre de 2007, de conformidad con el artículo 24 del Tratado de la Unión Europea, la Presidencia negoció con la asistencia del Secretario General/Alto Representante un Acuerdo entre la Unión Europea y la República Centroafricana sobre el estatuto de la Fuerza dirigida por la Unión Europea en dicho país.
(4) Procede aprobar el Acuerdo.
