DECISIÓN DE LA COMISIÓN
de 9 de diciembre de 2005
por la que se exime a Chipre y Malta de la obligación de aplicar la Directiva 2002/54/CE del Consejo relativa a la comercialización de las semillas de remolacha
[notificada con el número C(2005) 4756]

LA COMISIÓN DE LAS COMUNIDADES EUROPEAS,
Visto el Tratado constitutivo de la Comunidad Europea,
Vista la Directiva 2002/54/CE del Consejo, de 13 de junio de 2002, relativa a la comercialización de las semillas de remolacha (1), y, en particular, su artículo 30 bis,
Vistas las solicitudes presentadas por Chipre y Malta,
Considerando lo siguiente:
(1) En la Directiva 2002/54/CE se establecen diferentes disposiciones para la comercialización de las semillas de remolacha. Asimismo, en la mencionada Directiva se prevé que, si se cumplen determinadas condiciones, pueda eximirse total o parcialmente a los Estados miembros de la obligación de aplicar dicha Directiva.
(2) Las semillas de remolacha no se reproducen ni se comercializan habitualmente en Chipre y Malta. Además, el cultivo de remolacha tiene una importancia económica mínima en los países mencionados.
(3) En la medida en que no se modifiquen estas condiciones, deberá eximirse a los Estados miembros mencionados de la obligación de aplicar las disposiciones de la Directiva 2002/54/CE a los materiales en cuestión.
(4) Las medidas previstas en la presente Decisión se ajustan al dictamen del Comité permanente de semillas y plantas agrícolas, hortícolas y forestales.
