Abstract

Thissubject wasinspired bythe multiplechallenges thatprevailnowadaysinthe

Albaniansocietyandelsewhereontheroleandthepositionofwomeninthepolitical

economic and social life. Albania has undergone some important developments in

thelasttwo decades interms of equalitybetweenmen and womeneven though

there is still a lot more to be done to guarantee the real application of the gender

rightsThisstudyfocusesontheroleofwomeninsocietyandprovidesanoverview

ofthegender rightsfromajuristicapproachTheAlbanianlegislationonthisissue

iscomparedwiththedispositionoftheConventionfortheEliminationofAllForms

ofDiscriminationCEDAWaswellasthedispositionsoftheEuropeanUnionThe

studyemphasizes thedegree towhichtheserightshavebeenimplementedinour

socialcontextThe purpose ofthepaper is tohighlightthe importance ofgender

equalityandequalchancesandopportunitiesforwomeninthesocialandeconomic

development of the society.

Introduction

Humanrightsare universal They belongtoall the individualsandeverybody is

entitledtoenjoythemNeverthelessthefactofthemaeristhatdierentindividuals

aresubjectedto dierent treatmentinour society foravariety ofreasonsone of

which is the gender The dierent treatment of an individual in comparisons to

another individual of the opposite sex under the same circumstances is considered

discrimination.

ThequestionthatnaturallyposesitselfisHowdoestheAlbanianlegislation cope

withthisissueWemustemphasizethatduringthelasttwodecadesAlbaniahas

made a lot of progress in this direction not only in terms of implementing the right

legislativeinstitutionaland administrativemeasuresbut also indraingpolicies

thatimprove thestatus ofwomenandencouragegender equalityin allthe elds

especially in the decisionmaking The goal of the women empowerment policies

wastoprovide beeraccessfortheminthelabormarket andfacilitatetheir career

advancement in politics or business. Nevertheless, the reality of proper gender rights`

implementationisalongwayaheadDenedasequalitybetweenmenandwomen

in all public and private spheres, gender equality implies equal access and control on

thesourcesprotsandpoliticaldecisionmakingTheimprovementofthesituation

byseingclearlegalobjectiveswillprovideasolidstandardofassessmentaswellas
