Abstract
Thissubject wasinspired bythe multiplechallenges thatprevailnowadaysinthe
Albaniansocietyandelsewhereontheroleandthepositionofwomeninthepolitical
economic and social life. Albania has undergone some important developments in
thelasttwo decades interms of equalitybetweenmen and womeneven though
there is still a lot more to be done to guarantee the real application of the gender
rightsThisstudyfocusesontheroleofwomeninsocietyandprovidesanoverview
ofthegender rightsfromajuristicapproachTheAlbanianlegislationonthisissue
iscomparedwiththedispositionoftheConventionfortheEliminationofAllForms
ofDiscriminationCEDAWaswellasthedispositionsoftheEuropeanUnionThe
studyemphasizes thedegree towhichtheserightshavebeenimplementedinour
socialcontextThe purpose ofthepaper is tohighlightthe importance ofgender
equalityandequalchancesandopportunitiesforwomeninthesocialandeconomic
development of the society.

Introduction
Humanrightsare universal They belongtoall the individualsandeverybody is
entitledtoenjoythemNeverthelessthefactofthemaeristhatdierentindividuals
aresubjectedto dierent treatmentinour society foravariety ofreasonsone of
which is the gender The dierent treatment of an individual in comparisons to
another individual of the opposite sex under the same circumstances is considered
discrimination.
ThequestionthatnaturallyposesitselfisHowdoestheAlbanianlegislation cope
withthisissueWemustemphasizethatduringthelasttwodecadesAlbaniahas
made a lot of progress in this direction not only in terms of implementing the right
legislativeinstitutionaland administrativemeasuresbut also indraingpolicies
thatimprove thestatus ofwomenandencouragegender equalityin allthe elds
especially in the decisionmaking The goal of the women empowerment policies
wastoprovide beeraccessfortheminthelabormarket andfacilitatetheir career
advancement in politics or business. Nevertheless, the reality of proper gender rights`
implementationisalongwayaheadDenedasequalitybetweenmenandwomen
in all public and private spheres, gender equality implies equal access and control on
thesourcesprotsandpoliticaldecisionmakingTheimprovementofthesituation
byseingclearlegalobjectiveswillprovideasolidstandardofassessmentaswellas
