Abstract
Divorce is not just a problem caused by social, but also economic consequences. Social implications
are vital and cannot be overlooked. It is not easy to bring up children nowadays, even if both parents
are employed and contribute both economically for their welfare. ere are more diculties for
divorced parents, who are forced to make such a task. It is very dicult for this category to provide
good living conditions for children, especially when they do not have a house to live, when they
are unemployed, or in the cases when the other parent does not contribute economically. Oen
parents of divorced couples provide shelter and help, but this is not enough. Many divorced parents
choose another country to ensure better living conditions for their children. Main objective of this
article is to present the economic situation in which couples were before and aer the divorce. e
survey data are taken from the personal data of divorced from the Albanian Court of Elbasan.

Introduction
Divorce is a phenomenon of all societies whether they are rich or poor. It happens to a
couple as a result of a combination of factors, emotional, social and economic. ere are
a host of social factors that cause divorce, where each of them has its impact. Apart from
them, there are also several economic factors that hinder living in pairs. Albanian families
are faced with many economic diculties, which force many of them to emigrate in other
countries. e question that arises in this study is closely connected with: What is the
economic situation of the couples before and aer the divorce? e present economic
situation of partners aer the divorce will also be analyzed. e research methods used
in this study consist of primary data (interviews with divorced persons) and secondary
(borrowed from literature). e study was conducted based on the representative model
with qualitative data. Part of this study are data from semi-structured interviews and
unstructured that were conducted with participants in the study (target groups). e
sample was constructed by non-probability approach. Participants in the study were men
and women who have made a request for divorce. Interviews were conducted with persons
staying away from partner, as a result of immigration. e purpose of these interviews is
to analyze the impact of immigration in the relationship.
During data analysis three important stages in the life expectancy of marriage were
analyzed. e rst phase – consisting of one year aer marriage. e second phase -
consisting of enquiries regarding the nancial side and the third phase – consisting of 10
years.
During the rst phase, both partners gave positive answers. ey felt love and warmth and
none of the spouses, showed economic diculties during this period. During this stage,
they enjoyed mutual respect for each other. In most of the cases studied, they were living
with husband’s parents. e economic problems were solved mainly by parents, and in
any case they were not faced with this issue directly.
