10 CURRENT BEST PRACTICES
On 18 June 2019, the Government decided to create an internal administrative working
group on human rights with the a ims of improving the follow-up to the recommendations
of international human rights bodies, optimising data collection and coordinating
reporting in the human rights field. The following bodies are represented on the working
group: the Office for Foreign Affairs (at the head of the working group), the Office for
Justice, the Office for Social Services, the Office for Statistics, the Office for the National
Economy, the Office for Foreigners and Passports, the National Police and the School
Board. The working groups mandate also includes the organisation of exchanges on
human rights issues with institutions and organisations outside the administration, in
particular those representing civil society and the private sector. The working group
reports annually to the Government on its work.
In September 2019, the Liechtenstein Commission for Protection against Violence
organised a workshop for Liechtenstein media professionals featuring the project director
of the International Network Against Cyber Hate (INACH), a non-governmental
organisation, who provided them with knowledge, options for action and tools for dealing
safely with hate and agitation. The sensitisation of the media to the topic of hate speech
corresponded to a recommendation of the European Commission against Racism and
Intolerance (ECRI) in its fifth country report on Liechtenstein from 2018.137
On 24 September 2019, the Government decided to extend its commitment to combating
modern slavery and human trafficking through the Liechtenstein Initiative for Mobilizing
Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking for another two years.138 Over the next two
years, the initiative will focus on disseminating the action plan headed A Blueprint for
Mobilizing Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking, which was presented to the
international community and the financial sector in New York on 27 September 2019.
