European Day for the Victims on Terrorism

Parliament will mark the European Day for the Victims on Terrorism with a group of 500 students invited from schools in Strasbourg, London, Madrid and Ortenau Kreis (Germany). In the morning, the students will meet in Parliament's Strasbourg chamber to take part in a series of working group sessions on issues such as fighting terrorism at European level, how the EU should tackle today's worldwide challenges, the advantages of living in a multicultural society and how to help integrate migrants.

From 14:30 to 15:40, European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pottering will hold a formal session with the students in the chamber. Speakers will include a representative of the EU's German Presidency, Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner Vladimir Spidla, Civil Liberties Committee Chairman Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE, FR), and Culture Committee Chairman Nikolaos Sifunakis (PES, EL). A one-minute silence will be observed at 15:00.

The 11 March European memorial day for victims of terrorism was initiated by Parliament in the aftermath of the March 2004 Madrid train bombings.
