e rst International Congress of Law of the European Union was
held from 15th to 19th March 2021, focused on e European Union and
the Objectives of Sustainable Development of the 2030 Agenda. Formally
inaugurated by Rosa María Aguilar Chinea, the Magnicent Rector of
the University of La Laguna, the Spanish institutional venue of the aca-
demic meeting. It was organized by the Law Faculty and the European
Documentation Centre of the University of La Laguna.
Up to 32 universities from dierent countries participated in the event,
being 8 of them abroad from the host country. e congress was directed
by PhD María Aránzazu Calzadilla Medina, Dean of the Law Faculty of the
University of La Laguna, and PhD Ruth Martinón Quintero, director of the
European Documentation Center. Both directors who; aer 10 annual edi-
tions Conference on European Union Law, which served as precedents for
this event, decided to go one step further and turn those former sessions
into an international congress, which is likely to turn into a future biennial
activity.
e primary issues discussed in last March 2021 International
Congress of Law of the European Union were the Objectives of Sustainable
Development, a matter of paramount relevance to the host University of
La Laguna. e whole institution has endeavored to promote the so-called
Agenda 2030 among its academic community. Furthermore, it has commi-
tted itself to environmental sustainability, as well as to social, political and
scientic improvements.
