6.1. Statistical unit
The statistical unit for indicator 6 is the num-
ber of victims. A victim is ‘a natural person who
has suered harm, including physical, mental
or emotional harm or economic loss which was
directly caused by a criminal oence, as well as
the family members of a person whose death
was directly caused by a criminal oence and
who have suered harm as a result of that per-
son’s death’ (50).
6.2. Type of oence
The oence covered by indicator 6 is that of
sexual intimate partner violence, dened as any
sexual act per formed on the victim without con-
sent. Sexual violence can take the form of rape
or sexual assault (51).
